The Whole Counsel of Scripture

So today, my mind is wrapped up in Ecclesiastes 10 vs 1, and what it implies in the life of a believer. I am wrapped up because at the core of my heart, i realise that this means there is no room for “pet peeves” and tolerable sin to the believer.

And it is for this reason that i feel it pertinent to talk about the whole counsel of scripture. Because what this embodies is not confined to the glory of a promise, or merely the hope of a future; rather it shows the very essence of God’s nature.

It takes understanding the defiling nature of sin, to appreciate the necessity of its punishment by death; and it takes a realization of how we really owe everything to God, be it looks or skills or wealth, for one to truly realize the need for gratitude and humility always. Additionally, it is only when one allows the reality to sink in that our world was created from the spoken word that we see the absolute, non-negotiable need to tame our tongues.

In all this, a work is done in us; the renewing of our mind to become more like Christ and the shaping of our lives after holiness and righteousness.

And it is this very thought that made me want to share the thought that is in my heart-that the whole counsel of scripture will work in us a desire and ability to lead a holy life. (See 1 Tim 1 vs 5)

And I fear anything else we present or omit in our study of the word is that which Paul speaks of when He says “men shall have itching ears, collecting for themselves teachers whom they want to hear (paraphrased 2 Timothy 4 vs 3 “
