Concerning #DoomProphet and #AnnointedSewage
I speak to believers when I write this:
We have witnessed some strange things over the past few years; from people eating grass to people drinking annointed sewage and having doom used as some sort of deliverance tool. Often, there is a knee jerk reaction that castigates such occurrences; both the leader and the followers and many will simply say “Alas, these are the false prophets that were spoken of by Jesus and the Apostles;” with a reaction that ends there.
From all angles of society, ridicule and mockery has been directed with many a comedian having a field day because of such occurrences. Unfortunately, we as believers have followed suit and been blinded to the reality of what is really going on. I say unfortunately because I believe we are deceived in how we perceive such occurrences.
That may shock you, but let me ask you a few questions and you will see what I mean. For every #DoomProphet or #AnnointedSewage; do we see that this is only a success because someone somewhere is so broken, so hopeless that they will turn to whoever offers a sution withiut question? Do we see in these stories the desperation of hurting, needy people who know they need a saviour and help, who are not presenting themselves as theological gurus or critics but simply as the sick in need of a cure? So desperate they are willing to do the most foolish of things to obtain help; so broken they have lost all regard for public opinion and are committed to finding help whatever it looks like?
Because if we were to see this; instead of easy cynicism and critiquing, the one personal question we would then ask ourselves possibly with tears in our eyes is this: Am I available to God and to these people to be an expression of his love, power and faithfulness? Am I yielded and submitted enough to be the conduit through which the love, power and favour of God is freely given to humanity?
Our hearts would break in pain as we extended love towards every needy person we saw and I think we would take our attention off of trying to win every theological argument, and trying to convince every cynic or atheist that God is real. We wouldn’t waste ourtime trying to make those in the world who hate us understand us but we would be there for the crying mother who has just lost a child; we would see the breakthrough of God in ending a cycle of miscarriage by the simple power of laying on of hands, we would see the provision of God breaking cycles of poverty and out of the amazing work, even the hardest of cynics may then have to be convinced that God is at the very least real.
Brothers and sisters, may the Lord of the harvest open our eyes to see the harvest that is RIPE.
