Today, we will look at two things that form a paradox, but that together work powerfully to help us to be free. What I realized about a lot of the shame I carried was that it stemmed from seeking the applause of men. I needed to be seen as upright. I needed to be seen and acknowledged as a certain kind of person. Hence, when I was not the person I claimed to be, I felt frustrated, angry with myself and ashamed that if people saw beneath the facade, they would be disappointed with the truth beneath.
Are you on the verge of depression in this season of life? Do you have pressures due to your work, or the absence of it that cause you to be in constant mental anguish? Do you have fears for your health because of Covid-19, or Ebola or any other disease prominent in this time? Are you intimidated by the size of your own dreams? And now you fear your dreams are just that. Dreams that have no place in the tomorrow that is your future. Does your world seem to be crashing on top of you? Event after event building up a load on your back you doubt you can bear?

But if we are honest, our walk as Christians often does not reflect this limitless power available to us but rather, we often look at the lives of the disciples and Jesus as the pinnacle of what Christianity could be. A pinnacle we have no right to dare dream of seeing in our lifetimes but that must remain solely on the pages of scripture for our admiration….
And what exactly makes a perfect Valentine’s day gift? Is it the price tag written on it that says you are special? And therefore a $300 bouquet of flowers is better than a $30 one? Is it the uniqueness of the gift? Meaning that getting her a tailor made dress is better than the one at Edgars or Woolworths?
I have just nodded in agreement, expressing the same sentiment that “How on earth could someone survive in this environment,” but yet in my heart resides a hope that refuses to die-I will not let it. ..
Somehow, insidiously, an inferiority complex had nested itself in my view of myself-I saw myself as missing an element, an elusive component I could not define, that would otherwise lead me to be effective in my role as leader both at home and work. I could conjure up the dream that said I would see exceeding and abundant provision from God, but I did not see myself as capable of taking the necessary steps to get there. In summary, I realised that I thought of myself as not enough-inadequate to meet the demands of either my current situation or the height of my dreams…
But yet, the irony in all of this is to have an amazing marriage, a key cornerstone will be to be good as friends to each other; not just friends but best friends. In the friendzone, this friendship is there; the willingness to accept and love each other unconditionally and the missing part is supposedly “sexual chemistry.” Ironically, these besties often do not want to lose their intimate place even when the other finds a good relationship but yet do not want to go out with each other because they are “friends.”
Would we sing of the God who parts the Red Sea, had the Israelites not faced an enemy in the rear and in the front? And death stared them in the eye, but God delivered them? Would we talk of Jesus as the healer, if there were never sickness? Would we be talking of a God who heals the lame, the blind and the deaf if these never existed?
