As a man thinketh…

Hi. So today I am going to attempt to a triple bill of posts that have been brewing in my mind and that as I have alluded earlier, I want to someday incorporate into a book.

I must begin by admitting that of late, God has really been grabbing my attention to the reality of his word, how it is more than feel-good Sunday sermons to fulfil a contractual obligation but of how truly his Word is real, active and guaranteed to give results all the time. And no, it’s not been by means of a loud booming audible voice but it has been the silent call to attention to His word in my heart as I have observed situations and circumstances around me. As this has happened, I must also confess to the tremors in my heart of a holy fear that have been awakened as the sanctity of His word continues to shake me to the core: for indeed what I have been experiencing transcends that moment in church when the teacher or pastor shares a word that you know to be real but beyond the four walls of the church, you find yourself in a crux where you have no idea of how to implement it or how to get it going in your life. It’s as if this time, with these realisations, the Word has become like the seed planted on fertile soil for now I find myself in the frame of mind where I want to fight for it to take root in my heart and for it to become what I live by. Selah.
Most if not all of us are familiar with the verse that says “As a man thinketh in his heart so is he;” which is in Proverbs 23:7. For some, it even may be a memory verse able to be quoted off the back of one’s mind without batting an eyelid. But I must ask again, do we really appreciate the gravity of what this means to us? What has made it become something I am willing to fight for I admit is my observations on the lives of others, who I will not mention out of respect and reverence for who they are. Something changed in my heart when I realised that with some people, no matter how much money they earn, no matter how good of opportunities they are presented with in their lives and no matter how high the potential for what they can be is, nothing really quite changes in their lives. They live their lives as though fated to be second best even when first place looks them right in the eye and when you listen to their conversation, it tells its own story; it is like one low point after another chases them and them alone and through the lenses of their own eyes, they see nothing wrong with what they go through. You take a look at their lives, their talents and capabilities and the opportunities they could harness if they just could put their hearts into it and yet it all seems to elude them. They never get there; above the limitations of their own minds they never seem to rise.
It is such a shame when you realise this and at the same time an incredible opportunity to realise because at the moment you see this word fulfilled albeit negatively, you ask yourself the question, or at least in the way that my mind works, I ask myself the question-What if I actually would see this fulfilled positively in my life? What if I saw myself as a man in whose life the will and purposes of God were fulfilled and that becomes my reality? Because when I saw this, immediately I knew that the options for me were limitless and I could truly become the person whom I set out to be by changing the way I thought in my mind and heart without fear and I could go through the present circumstances that may seem adverse and contrarian with confidence and hope.
I was going to say that this word is not a prophecy, and that there are no conditions to fulfil and that is was just the way things are but then I remembered, 2 Peter 1:19 says “We have a more sure word of prophecy” speaking of the Word of God. And I realised that this word we have the privilege of reading at our will, that the words God wrote in the Bible that none is in vain and to be ignored and trifled with. And that when it comes to me, to my life and where I want to go, it all begins with seeing myself as God wants me to be-prosperous in my soul, with prosperous relationships, prosperous in my finances, succeeding in my dreams and being an effective witness for the gospel of Jesus.
And if your life right now is not where you want to be; I ask you now to be honest with yourself: What is the conversation that goes on in your mind? Who do you see yourself as? Do you see yourself succeeding, favoured by the grace of God or do you believe in some formless entity commonly referred to as luck? And that you got the wrong end of the stick? Take a track of your thoughts, of who you find yourself thinking you are and you will find invariably that you have missed it here. And as you realise this, my invitation to you now is to grab a hold of this truth, write it in your heart and renew your mind to think right because as you do so, your life will transform.

“As a man thinketh”…simple words, uncomplicated that however shape our realities.
