Gen 11:6
And the LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.
Pause for a moment, to think and reflect about how crazy this statement actually is. God, is looking at man, saying that if I do not step in-if I do not intervene, nothing that the men want to do will be impossible for them.
We are used as believers to calling ourselves nothing, worthless, and incapable of anything. Statements we carry with honour in a mistaken belief that that is what true humility and honour to God looks like. But here, we see God looking at man, and acknowledging that the men he has created if their minds are set on something, and are united will be able to achieve it. There is a lesson we need to learn here, a lesson and instruction on the importance of mindset.
Having the right mindset is crucial in our lives. It’s a term that is often associated with self-help psychology, but I believe it goes beyond that. Our mindset is deeply connected to our faith and the Word of God. It shapes our beliefs, thoughts, and actions, and ultimately influences the outcomes we experience.
In the Bible, we can find valuable teachings about mindset. Scriptures remind us to renew our minds, to set our minds on things above, and to think on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. These biblical truths serve as a solid foundation for cultivating a positive and God-centered mindset.
When we align our mindset with God’s Word, we become more aware of His presence, His promises, and His wisdom. We begin to see challenges as opportunities for growth, setbacks as divine redirection, and blessings as gifts from above. Our mindset shapes our perspective, and our perspective influences the fruit we bear in our lives.
So, let us strive to cultivate a mindset that is rooted in the truth of God’s Word. Let us be intentional about guarding our thoughts, filling our minds with His transformative truths, and seeking His guidance in every aspect of our lives. May our mindset reflect the grace, love, and faithfulness of our Heavenly Father, and may it lead us toward a life filled with purpose, joy, and abundance.
In the next post or two, I want to take this concept or idea of mindset a level deeper into our lived experience as Africans. About how even today, you hear many of us still believe that without the white man, we cannot self-govern, or create beautiful cities. I will be asking why even after saying we believe in a limitless God, we believe our individual potential is limited, and that we can barely make a difference in this world.
I will be asking how we can justify the fact that even after being born again, we do not think we can make a dent to see our families transformed by the redemptive love of God, or ourselves rise to create enterprises that solve our very local and African problems ourselves.
And not least, I will be challenging myself and us to transform our minds and align ourselves with what God says about us and what we can be.
For now, I will leave the following scriptures to provoke our thoughts.
Proverbs 23 vs 7. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.
Romans 12:2…be transformed by the renewing of your mind…
Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace, he whose mind is stayed upon you…
Romans 8:6 “For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.”
2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
