2021 – A few thoughts

The year has started. It is in full swing in fact, seeing we are already in February. It is lockdown again in my country, but given my job is classed as an essential service, I barely experience the effects. The daily sight of police roadblock is my constant reminder that the world is still battling with Covid 19. A recent impounding of my car a stark reminder that my country is not where God intends her to be.

Nevertheless, I have hope. My God is alive-He is not panicking because of either the economy, Covid19 or my chickens which of late had perfected the art of waking up dead. He is not full of anxiety for when my life will become all that He intends it to be-the full measure of the stature of Christ (Ephesians 4 vs 13) and neither should I. After all, as Jesus asked, what can I achieve by worrying? It will not even grow a single hair. So yes, I still have hope and I am fighting to come back to that place of quiet, steady and unshakeable peace in my God.

In the most recent years, my first post normally had a word for the season from God. A specific verse or scripture guiding what I was to expect and anticipate in the coming year. Whilst I do have a word to stand on for the season, I get the distinct impression that I must not share. But rather, encourage you who is reading this to speak to your Father. Ask Him what He has set out for you this season.

Your life and mine are in different places. We are likely in different seasons, needing to be steered differently as per His will for our lives. So, I encourage you and I challenge you if you have never done this. Ask your Father for His word for you for this season and write it down when he responds. He will respond for He is the perfect Father, and great and unfathomable is His love for you. The thoughts He has towards you outnumber the sands on the seashore and He will speak in your ear, in your heart to tell you the way in which you should go.

Do you have resolutions? Have you already set them aside and today this 2nd of February you have already set them aside? Are you already discouraged that you will not see them come to fruition this year? My simple advice is stop pressuring yourself so much. Maybe what you need to set are smaller, tiny habit changes that will compound and result in you meeting your goals.

Every Olympic athlete has the goal to win a gold medal, but only one will. Goalsetting therefore is not the magic elixir of success it has been billed to be. Instead of pressuring yourself with big lofty goals, why not change and learn a single good habit each month this year? Start small, and do something really easy to do for this month. Read your bible for 10 minutes before you sleep, or as soon as you wake up. Write down 3 things you are grateful for each day and thank God for them. Start small and every month, or two, or three add a second habit. A few years of good habits and you will find your resolutions met.

As I conclude this first post for 2021, I pray that you discover who God made you to be and what He has in store for you. My desire for all believers is for us to wake up to realize the great blessing that is Jesus Christ. His death not only secured eternity, but health, peace, prosperity, life and so much more. The stripes he bore are the price for our perfect health. We need not fear Covid19, the new strain, or cancer, or any disease, or the conspiracy theories floating around about the vaccine. The price He paid is more than adequate. If only we could fix our eyes on these truths alone.

Who on this planet can snatch a believer out of God’s hands? If only as believers we stopped trying to be cool to the world and acceptable in their eyes. If only we stopped caring about what people thought of us and started living like we actually believed all He has said concerning us. We are in the world, but not of it. We are the salt of the earth, and the light of the world. We are a city, set on a hill. The world needs what you and I carry. It needs Jesus, and my prayer for you and I in 2021 is that we become bold, unashamed and confident in Him. Let us take off the old man, with His envy, strife, jealousies and futile works and put on the new man in Christ. Let us live and be the example that this broken world needs to come to the heart of the Father. Let us be radical in our faith and in our bold, unabashed love.

May God bless you.
